Cyber Crime Protection
Monday, March 22, 2010
A 2008 survey conducted by the Computer Security
Institute found that the average loss suffered by businesses from
computer fraud was $289,000.
Local businesses have seen thefts of between $20,000
and $160,000.
Are you protecting your business from Cyber Crime properly?
"Phishing" and other cyber scams make it easier than ever for
criminals to access your computer systems and steal your money,
securities and other assets. Your web-based banking, EFT and
payroll applications are being targeted by malicious
software: Trojan Horse downloads, key logger programs, and
other spoofing techniques. These attacks could result in
substantial monetary losses to your business.
What can you do?
- Protect your computers and network systems - install one of the
industry-leading security software applications, keep all your
software security patches up-to-date, and check your internet
firewall security
- Protect your passwords - use "strong" passwords and keep them
secret. Go to these Microsoft sites for more info:
- Have good internet and e-mail policies and procedures in place
and train your employees about "safe computing"
- Review your insurance protection - if you are a victim of
computer or funds transfer fraud - do you have the right
coverage?
